Augmented Reality (AR) is an interactive experience layering virtual information on top of the real world, altering the perception of the environment by adding elements over it or hiding part of it. AR can be displayed using a device with camera, mobile devices (smartphones and tablets) for instance, or on a HUD (Head-up Display, a transparent display that presents data without requiring users to look away from their usual viewpoints) such as smart glasses.

Please note that Augment currently doesn't support HUD, it is available for the web and for iOS and Android devices.

It shouldn't be confused with Virtual Reality (VR) which is immersing the user in a fully virtual world through a headset or similar.

AR can add various virtual elements over the real world, it can be 2D images, videos, sound, 3D objects... Augment currently support 2D images and 3D objects (optimized for real-time use).
