The 3D Editor is divided into 4 different areas which propose a specific category of tools:

  • A navigation bar at the top (purple) includes global options that influence the whole editor or control your work,

  • Tree views on the left (orange) display hierarchical views of the model components,

  • A 3D viewer (blue) is the 3D display of the model, different options modify the rendering of the model for review or design purpose,

  • Panels on the right (green) are toolboxes used edit model elements.

Editor layout

The menu bar :

In the middle, the current name of the model is visible.

On the right, 2 buttons are available to save and release your work:

  • the 'Save Draft' button stores the changes made as a draft version until you decide to publish a new version of the 3D model. You can freely exit the editor and recover your work later.

  • The ‘Publish’ button publishes your changes and updates the current version of the 3D model. This action is required to see your new work in the Augment apps and viewers.

The "question mark" button redirects to articles in the Augment Help Center if you need information and guidance during your edition session.

The model hierarchy view:

Tree views are used to show the hierarchy of your 3D model. They allow you to select precise elements of your 3d model and inspect its properties.

Two tree views are available:

  • Geometries which is the complete model structure with nodes, meshes, materials and textures

  • Materials which is the list of materials used by the models, effective for selecting and editing a material.

The 3D view :

The 3D view is the main view of the editor which renders the 3D model.

Two toolbars propose options to affect the model or the rendering:

  • Rendering options in the top bar allow you to adjust the camera point of view to canonical positions or to modify the appearance of the model:

    • cameras: select one of the 6 different viewpoints (front, top, right...)

    • solid / wireframe: switch into wireframe rendering mode to better see the structures of meshes

    • shaded / textured: apply automatic colors to identify elements sharing the same materials or activate real textures and materials (active by default)

  • Display settings in the bottom bar allow you to control visual aids (grid, axes, light/dark mode)

    • dark mode: dark background for eye comfort or to better see light elements

    • grid: customizable grid (see Settings) to appreciate the dimensions of the model

    • axes: customizable x, y, z axes (see Settings) to understand the orientation of the model
